Irregular Bitmaps Print Streaks to Non-LJ and PS Printers
Irregular Bitmaps Print Streaks to Non-LJ and PS Printers
Q149350
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
- Microsoft Windows operating environment, versions 3.1, 3.11
- Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, versions 3.1, 3.11
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
If you print a publication that contains an irregularly cropped bitmapped
image (an imported .tif, .bmp, or .pcx file, for example), that image may
be printed with horizontal gaps in it, or the graphic may be split with the
bottom half printing above the top half. This behavior may occur if you
print to a printer that does not use either the Hewlett-Packard Printer
Control Language (HPPCL) or the Adobe PostScript page description language.
CAUSE
=====
Printing irregularly cropped bitmaps uses a lot of Windows GDI (graphics
device interface) resources. If you run out of GDI resources, these
symptoms may occur.
RESOLUTION
==========
Publisher for Windows, version 2.0a, contains special code to bypass
this limitation for HPPCL and PostScript printers. If your printer
can emulate a LaserJet or has a PostScript option, use a LaserJet or
PostScript driver to print the image.
If your printer does not support either of these printer languages,
restart Windows and open Publisher before you run any other program.
Try to print your publication.
STATUS
======
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
