SUMMARY
When you try to set up Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) from a Windows
NT server to a Novell 4.x server, you may receive the following error
message:
Access deniedCAUSE The most probable cause of this error is that you are trying to connect to a volume on the Novell 4.x server that is running outside of the bindery emulation context.
MORE INFORMATION NetWare Directory Services (NDS) is a service that is part of the NetWare 4.x operating system. NDS regulates access to network information, resources, and services. Windows NT's Gateway Services for NetWare cannot set up a gateway to a volume contained in an NDS branch. Windows NT can only set up a gateway to a volume contained in a branch using bindery emulation. An easy way to check for bindery emulation volumes is to type "config" at the NetWare 4.x Server's System Console. This will give you server information and, on the bottom of the screen, a section titled Bindery Context. This section tells you which branch is running in bindery emulation. The NTGATEWAY group must be seen as an object under this branch. The user account used by the Windows NT server must also be an object under this branch. The rest of the GSNW setup is the same as it is for NetWare 3.x servers and can be completed by reading Chapter 2 of the book "Services for NetWare Networks" that is included with Windows NT. |
