SYMPTOMS
In Windows NT 3.51, when you print from a Windows application to a Hewlett
Packard (HP) series 4 or 5 print device, all the text is printed in black,
even if it has been formatted in another color.
MORE INFORMATION
This problem occurs on the HP 4 and 5 series print devices that use the PCL
printer language and also use the unidriver RASDD.DLL dated 3/6/96 from
Service Pack 4, or the RASDD.DLL dated 12/4/95 that shipped with the HP 5
Series driver updates, I_PCL5.EXE, I_PCL5MS.EXE, I_LSRJT5.EXE and
I_CLRLSR.EXE, from the Microsoft Windows NT Driver Library.
WORKAROUND
To resolve this problem, install the fix mentioned below.
In Print Manager, choose Printer Properties/Details/Job Defaults/Options,
and select Print Text as Graphics. Print jobs will be larger, because the
entire page is rendered as a graphic.
An alternate workaround is to replace the unidriver with an older version.
Since drivers in the NT Driver Library require Service Pack 3 or later, it
is recommended that you only use the RASDD.DLL from SP3 instead of one from
an earlier Service Pack or the original NT CD.
To replace the unidriver, perform the following steps:
