BUG: The Mental Ray Renderer Local Bump Map Is Wrong

  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you render a Softimage 3D object with a 2D local texture that has Swap UV on it with the mental ray renderer, an image that appears in double vision is created.

CAUSE

The mental ray renderer local bump map is wrong.

RESOLUTION

  • Turn off the Swap UV option to render with mental ray.

    -or-

  • Rotate the image with the rotate standalone to render with mental ray.

    -or-

  • Render the object with the Softimage 3D renderer rather than with the mental ray renderer.

STATUS

Softimage has confirmed this to be a bug in the Softimage product listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
