BUG: 3D Constraint Object Pops Back When a Second One Is Moved

  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

A Softimage 3D constraint object pops back when a second one is moved. This is a Softimage 3D Model update on objects that joints are constrained to.

If you constrain the joints of a multiple-jointed skeleton to objects (nulls or boxes), you normally proceed as follows:

  1. Save an initial position for all the nulls.

  2. Move interactively one constraint object.

  3. Then without keying the first move, move a second constraint object. The first constraint object pops back to its original position and the animated position from the fcurves of the first constraint is reinstated.

RESOLUTION

Work around this bug as follows:

Learn a user-defined key. In this way, when you move one of the constraint objects, you can use a keyboard shortcut ("b", for example) to save the key move quickly so that the constraint object does not jump back to its original position when the next constraint object is moved.

In the Preferences menu, choose the Keyboard Setup option, and click Learn.

In the Savekey menu, choose Object, select Explicit Translation, and click All.

STATUS

Softimage has confirmed this to be a bug in the Softimage product listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
