SYMPTOMS

Cluster keys assigned identical names cause Softimage 3D to quit.

If, when working with a scene wherein you are saving clusters, you save a cluster with the same name as a previous cluster in the scene and you then save the scene, reload the scene, and try to save a cluster animation key for the last cluster saved in the scene, Softimage 3D quits.

RESOLUTION

Don't use duplicate cluster names.
