Works: Replace Command Doesn't Match Month in Spreadsheet or DB

When you use the Find command in the Database or Spreadsheet modules of Works, Find will match month names like, January, or month abbreviations like, Jan., but the Replace command may not. The Replace command will match month names that have been entered as text, but not if the month name in the cell is a numerical date formatted to display as text.

Works treats dates as numbers; January 1, 1900 is assigned a date value of 01, and every day after that increases the number by 1. Thus, January 1, 2000 has a serial date number, 36526. It is important to note, even if you format the field or cell to display a month name, Works calculates that value as a number.

The valid serial date range is 1/1/1900 to 6/3/2079. Any date entered outside this range will be treated as text.

  1. Copy the information you want to perform the Replace on, from the Spreadsheet or Database List view.
  2. Paste the information into a new Word Processor document.
  3. Use the Replace command, on the Edit menu, to replace month names or abbreviations as desired.
  4. Select all the information in the Word Processor document and click Copy.
  5. Paste the information into spreadsheet cells or database List view fields where it was copied from.
NOTE: This procedure will convert your dates from numeric values to text entries.
