FP: HTTP Error "Code 500" When Using WebSite 1.0

Article ID: Q150685

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a WebSite 1.0 Web in the FrontPage Explorer, you may receive the following error message:

An HTTP server error has occurred. An error has occurred in the
HTTP server which made it impossible for the FrontPage Server
Extensions to process this request (HTTP Code 500).

CAUSE

When you create a new web, you must wait for the WebSite server to become idle and reread its configuration before you can edit that web. You will be prompted to restart the server after you create a new web, because this ensures that the server will read its configuration.

In general, however, you do not need to restart the server. Instead, wait a second or two for the server to reread its configuration.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, Install the FrontPage 1.1 Server Extensions, and then restart the WebSite Server before you attempt to use FrontPage 1.1.
