PRJ4: Sharing a Resource Pool May Change Project Dates

When the option "Pool takes precedence" is selected in the Share Resources dialog box, the project calendar, resource exceptions, and field information is obtained from the first project sharing the resource pool.

Consider the following example. Project1 contains resource "A" using the Standard Calendar settings 8:00am to 5:00pm. Project2 contains resource "A" using calendar exception settings of 8:00am to 12:00pm. Project1 shares the resource pool first. Resource A's calendar settings in the resource pool will be 8:00am to 5:00pm. Project2's duration will decrease because Resource "A" is now available 8 hours a day instead of the original 4 hours a day in Project2.

When the option "Sharer takes precedence" is selected in the Share Resources dialog box, the project calendar, resource exceptions, and field information is obtained from the last project sharing the resource pool.

Using the above example, Project1's duration will increase because Resource "A" is now available only 4 hours a day instead of the original 8 hours a day in Project1.

The above example applies when consolidating files Attached to Source and using the "Combine Resource Pools" option.
