The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel version 5.0 or 7.0, if you open a Microsoft Excel version 4.0 chart that contains an overlay, the series orders will change.

MORE INFORMATION

This is by design. The new charting methods of Microsoft Excel versions 5.0 and 7.0 add more flexibility and group series based on their chart types, not on the series order.

To maintain the series order, you must define a name for the series and reference the name in the chart from Microsoft Excel version 4.0. When the series are named, the shift will not occur when the chart is opened in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 or 7.0.
