PRJ: Moving Task in Gantt View Affects Location in PERT Chart

Making changes, such as cutting and pasting, or dragging and dropping of tasks within a Gantt Chart view, will affect the location of the same task within the PERT Chart view. The task(s) that have been moved in the Gantt Chart view will appear in a straight, horizontal line when viewed in the PERT Chart view.

For instance, consider the following tasks in a Gantt Chart view in the order in which they appear below:

  TaskA
  TaskB
  TaskC
  TaskD
				

Now assume, while in the Gantt Chart view, TaskC was cut and pasted between TaskA and TaskB. When the PERT Chart is applied, the task will appear in the following fashion:

  TaskA
    |
  TaskB
    |
  TaskD
         TaskC
				

NOTE: As each task is cut, moved, dragged and/or dropped, it will appear to the right of TaskC in the scenario above.

This feature is by design in the versions of Microsoft Project listed at the beginning of this article.

If you would like Microsoft Project to rearrange the task nodes for you, from the Format menu, click Layout Now. This action will potentially move any node that you have manually moved.
