SYMPTOMS

When you use Setup /y with Microsoft Office for Windows 95, the normal default toolbars are hidden after Setup is complete.

CAUSE

Setup /y is a switch used by Office Setup and Office application setup files. It allows a reinstallation of Office without performing file checks or actually reinstalling the files. Setup /y will re-register all Office components and return the settings to the default values in the Windows 95 Registry. The result of this is that the default Office Shortcut Bar toolbars are hidden when the Office Shortcut Bar restarts after the Setup /y installation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, using the right mouse button, click on a blank area of the Office Shortcut Bar. Choose the default toolbars you want to appear in the Shortcut menu list.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
