SYMPTOMSWhen you modify the Normal style in a Microsoft Excel for Windows workbook, and then modify the font in a custom header or footer, the font dialog box may not appear. In addition, when you modify the Normal style in a Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh workbook, and then modify a custom header or footer, Microsoft Excel may stop responding.
CAUSEIn Microsoft Excel for Windows, this behavior occurs when you change the Underline option to Single Accounting or Double Accounting in the workbook's Normal style, and you then attempt to change the font in a custom header or footer. In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, this behavior occurs when you change the Underline option to Single Accounting or Double Accounting in the workbook's Normal style, you insert a code in a custom header or footer, and you then attempt to reinsert a code in the custom header or footer.

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATIONNote that the Single Accounting and Double Accounting Underline options are not available in the Font dialog box when you click the Font button in a custom header or footer. Only Single or Double underline options are available when you click the Font button in a custom header or footer.
