FP1: Web Wizards Do Not Function Properly w/WebSite 1.0

Article ID: Q151350

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When FrontPage is used with O'Reilly & Associate's WebSite version 1.0 server software, the Web wizards do not function as expected. Regardless of which Web wizard is selected in FrontPage Explorer, an empty Web will be created.

CAUSE

Whenever you create a new Web, you must wait for the WebSite server to become idle and reread its configuration before you can edit that Web. You will be prompted to restart the server after creating a new Web because this ensures that the server will read its configuration files. However, normally it is not necessary to restart the server.

When you use Web wizards and templates to create a new Web, the templates stop when they receive the message to restart the server and do not continue creating content for the new Web.

RESOLUTION

To create a Web using one of the Web wizards, use the following steps:

1. Create an empty Web using the Empty Web template and wait for the server

   to reread its configuration files.

2. Open the empty Web and, within that Web, create another new Web using
the "Add to the Current Web" option in the New Web dialog box.
