			Changing Volume Attributes

The Change command from the Actions menu allows you to change the
	following volume attributes.

		- Maximum Number of Mounts
		- Expiration Date
		- Description
		- Pool
		- Cleaning Count

When you change a volume attribute, the change will apply to all
the volumes displayed in the scrolled list at the top of the Change
Volumes dialog. The exception to this is when the attribute does not
apply to a volume because of the volume's media type. For example,
Max Mounts, Expiration Date, and Pool do not apply to cleaning media
types. The cleaning count attribute does not apply to non-cleaning
	media types.

	Procedure to change volume attributes:

	1. From the Volumes list in the Media Management window, select the
volume or volumes you want to change. The selected volumes are
	   highlighted.

	2. Choose Change from the Actions menu in the Media Management
	   window.

A dialog box appears containing the media ID of each selected volume.
Cleaning Count appears in this dialog only if you have selected a
	   cleaning tape type.

	3. Select the check box for the attribute you want to change and
proceed as explained below in Changing Volume Attributes Dialog
	   Description.

	4. Choose OK to apply the changes to the selected volumes or Cancel to
	   leave the attributes unchanged.

	Changing Volume Attributes Dialog Description

The Change Volumes dialog consists of a scrolled list at the top
of the dialog and an area below which consists of toggle buttons
for each attribute that can be changed. The scrolled list contains
a list of each volume that was selected to be changed and the
	current attributes for each volume.

To change an attribute select the toggle button to the right of
the attribute label. This will display an area to the right of
the toggle button in which the value for this attribute can be
set. Below is a description of all the possible attributes that
can be changed with this dialog.

	Max Number of Mounts

This option allows you to change the number of times a volume
can be mounted. The current value for each volume is displayed
in the scrolled list at the top of the dialog. Note that a
		value of 0 means unlimited.

When you choose this option, two choices appear: Unlimited
		and Number.

To allow an unlimited number of mounts, select Unlimited.
		This is the default.

Entering 0 (default) is the same as selecting Unlimited.

Note that you cannot set the maximum number of mounts for a
		cleaning cartridge.

To allow only a specific number of mounts, select Number and
then enter the maximum number of times you want the volume to
be mounted. When the limit is passed, the volume can still be
mounted for a read but will not be mounted for a write.

	Expiration Date

This options allow you to change the expiration date for any
volume in the volume configuration. The expiration date refers
to the age of the media and is the time at which the media is
considered too old to be reliable. The current value for each
volume is displayed in the scrolled list at the top of the
dialog. Note that if the field is blank in the list that means
that no expiration date has been set so the volume has an
expiration date of Never (it will never expire).

When you choose this option, two choices appear: Never and Date.

			- To set the expiration date to infinity, select
			  Never. This is the default.

			- To set a specific date, select Date and enter the
date and time when you want the volume to no
			  longer be available for use.

When the expiration date has passed, a volume can still be
mounted for a read but is not mounted for a write. Requesting
write access to a volume whose expiration date has passed
results in an error. Requesting read access results in a
warning being logged to the system console log.

When you add a new volume, the expiration date is set to the
default of 0, which is the same as selecting Never.

NOTE: Do not confuse this value with the expiration date for
the data images that are on the media. The expiration
date in xvmadm refers only to the physical expiration of
the media independent of the data.

The expiration date for data is separately managed by the
application that is using Media Manager. In the case of
NetBackup images, it is set during schedule configuration
		      as the retention level.

	Description

When you choose this option, a small text box opens and you can
enter the new description of 0 to 25 characters.

The volume description for each volume you are changing appears
in the scrolled list at the top of the dialog. You enter a
description for each volume or range of volumes when you add
		them to the volume configuration.

	Pool
When you choose this option, a selection box is shown at the
right with a list of all configured pools.

The current pool for each volume is displayed in the scrolled
list at the top of the dialog. To select a new pool for the
volumes being changed, select a pool name from the selection
list or type in the name of an existing pool.

The volume pool for a cleaning volume cannot be changed.
All cleaning volumes must be in the None pool.

	Cleaning Count

This option appears if you selected a cleaning volume.
When you choose this option, a small text field is
shown to the right and you can enter the number of
cleanings that are left on the cleaning media. The current
cleaning count is displayed in the scrolled list at the top
		of the dialog.

After the maximum number of cleanings have been performed,
the Cleaning Count column in the Volumes list shows 0 for
this volume and Media Manager stops using it. When the first
drive misses its cleaning, the message NEEDS CLEANING appears
in the Comments column for that device in the Drive Cleaning
		Information dialog.

At this point, you can change the cleaning tape and increase
		the number of cleanings allowed.

For more information about cleaning tapes, see "Cleaning Tape
Drives" in the Media Manager System Administrator's Guide and
		the tpclean man page.
