Performing a Drive Firmware Upgrade in a StorEdge L9 and L20/L40/L60
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The following procedure explains how to use a FUP tape to upgrade the firmware
on the tape drives within a L9 and L20/L40/L60. The procedures are very similar
with some small differences between the L9 and L20/L40/L60. Any differences
between the procedures are addressed within each step below.

Please verify whether an Administrator's password has been set for the L9 or
L20/L40/L60 and if so, notate what the password is since you will need it
during the procedure. The L9 and L20/L40/L60 do not ship with default
Administrator passwords.

To perform the firmware upgrade on the tape drive, perform the following:

1) Ensure that the drive is online (green LED is ON and amber LED is OFF).
If the drive is not online, use the front panel to place it online. To
put the drives online, follow steps a - e below:

    a) From the Main menu, select: Service. Enter the password.
    b) From the Service menu, select: Online Drive Repair.
    c) Select the drive module and press: OK
    d) Select: Put Drive Online
    e) Return to: Main

The library will automatically run a self-test when the drive has been
     brought online.

2) Ensure the tape drive is empty and does not have a cartridge loaded into it.

NOTE: The drive icon(s) on the Home screen indicates the presence of a tape
    in the drive(s).

If the tape drive is empty, proceed to step 3 below. If the tape drive
isn't empty, perform the following according to which unit you are working
    with:

    d) Use the [-] or [+] keys to select the drive you want to unload.
    d) Select: Unload. This will move the tape from the drive to the tape's
original location in the magazine. If the magazine slot is currently
occupied with another tape, you will be asked to select another slot
        location.

The tape is automatically rewound before it is unloaded and that status
and activity will be displayed on the front panel.

NOTE: If all or multiple drives will have a firmware upgrade, perform
the above procedure until all tapes are unloaded.

    e) From the Drive and Tape Operations menu, return to the Main menu.
    f) Proceed to step 3 below.
