        About Help
        ----------
Help is available for all fields and buttons in isdntool.

To get GENERAL Help about each window, select the
Help menu on the top right corner of the window.

To get SPECIFIC information about a field or button,
place your mouse pointer on the corresponding label
and double click the RIGHT mouse button.

        About Field Colors
        ------------------
Clicking Colors On from the Configure menu provides additional
information about which fields may need to be set,
by using a color-scheme for the background color of the field.

Since a color is used to indicate whether a button has
been set or not, buttons are NOT included in this color scheme.
Please refer to the manual to get information about which
        buttons need to be set.

Here are the conventions on field colors:

light gray: field is irrelevant or read-only.
light green: field need not be set, default value is good.
light yellow: field may need to be set in some instances.
bright yellow: field must be set.

Note that Colors are On by default.

        About Configuring ISDN and PPP
        ------------------------------
You must first configure at least one ISDN physical interface
and at least one PPP connection before ISDN can be used.

To Configure ISDN, select ISDN from the Configure menu.
To Configure PPP, select PPP from the Configure menu.

About Starting and Stopping ISDN and PPP
        ----------------------------------------
After you have finished configuring ISDN and PPP, you can:

Start these subsystems by using the Start button on the
isdntool main window. Once started, the PPP subsystem
runs continuously as a daemon. You MUST Start before
        making your first connection.

Stop the ISDN subsystem using the Stop button.

Restart button Stops and then Starts the necessary daemon for
        a network connection.

        About Making IP connections
        ---------------------------
Once ISDN and PPP subsystems have been successfully configured and
Started, network connections will thereafter be made transparently.
Typical network applications as ping, rlogin, nfs, web browsers
would be started in the normal manner. The ISDN software will
take care of opening a phone line and connecting to the remote
        computer in the background.

        About Troubleshooting
        ---------------------
Several means of collecting data about making a connection
and keeping up with what's going on during the connection
        are available here.

For specific information about the Log, Trace, Statistics and
Debug Options double click on the Troubleshooting button.

<File>

The File menu option is "Exit".

Selecting this simply exits the isdntool utility, without
disturbing or stopping existing IP and ISDN connections.

<Configure>

The Configure menu options are: ISDN, PPP, and Colors.

        ISDN
        ----

Note that Colors are On by default.

Clicking Colors Off stops coloring the field backgrounds.
You may need to run with Colors Off in some cases: when
you don't have enough colormap resources, or, if you wish
isdntool to run a little faster, since using colors slows
        down isdntool marginally.

<Troubleshooting>

        The Troubleshooting menu options are:
"PPP/ISDN Log", "ISDN D Channel trace", "Connection Statistics",
        and "Debug Mode".

        PPP/ISDN Log
        ------------
The Log button pops up a window displaying the contents
of the file /var/opt/SUNWisdn/log (a combined isdn and ppp log)
This file holds the history of SunISDN operations. Click the
Dismiss button to dismiss the log window.

        ISDN D Channel trace
        --------------------
The Trace button initiates isdn D-Channel signalling trace,
and displays the trace output in a pop-up window.

For a healthy ISDN connection you might see the following
        messages:

        [You send] SND  ---------------------> SETUP
[You receive] RCV <------------------ Progress Indication
                        .
                        .
                        .
        RCV <------------------------------- CONNECTION confirmation
        SND  -------------------------------> CONNECT ACKNOWLEDGE [ACK]

If there is an error you will receive any of a variety of numbered
error messages. Both the error message interpretation and a
variety of ways of modifying and interpreting the trace are
        discussed in the User's Guide.

Isdntrace will stop when you click the Dismiss button.
All current output will be lost.

        Connection Statistics
        ---------------------
The Statistics button pops-up an xterm window showing current
statistics, by executing the /opt/SUNWisdn/bin/path_stat command
        in the xterm window.

The results are updated every 5 seconds and show the status
of all connections and associated links.

The connection statistics window is closed when you
select Quit from that window's menu.

        Debug Mode
        ----------
By clicking Debug Mode On, the PPP subsystem is started
in debug mode. This provides additional IP and PPP log
        information in the PPP/ISDN log.

By clicking Debug Mode Off, the PPP subystem in started
in non-debug mode. Normal Mode is the default in isdntool.
