INTRODUCTION
============

The Sun StorEdge(TM) StorTools(TM) package provides utilities for
monitoring and troubleshooting Sun StorEdge disk array installations.
A menu driven program interface provides task explanations and help
information.

Note: The Sun StorEdge T3 product name was changed from Sun StorEdge
T300 just prior to product shipment. Some of the Sun StorEdge T3
array user documentation has been updated to reflect the new name
however there are many software components (such as the Sun
StorTools diagnostic package) and other related documentation that
still reference this product as the Sun StorEdge T300. Users should
be aware that both the StorEdge T3 and StorEdge T300 names refer
to the same product and should be considered equivalent in terms of
product features and functionality.

AUDIENCE
============

The StorTools package is for use by system administrators and
Sun support personnel who are already familiar with Sun's disk
array products and have completed the required training in the
use of the StorTools package.

PATCH 109090-05 FEATURES
========================
Update StorTools 3.3 to Matrix 3.8
Removed hardcoded patch numbers in storstat to allow easy additions of drives
  to config matrix for storstat to check firmware levels with.
Added -F filename to command line in mess_sum to store summary to a file
Fixed -live option in cdmenu to properly display "not live" data.
Added new sections to snapshot for -live option in cdmenu
Added new sections to matrix for storstat disk fw and hba fw. User additions
  become very easy for new disks and hba cards.
New snapshot must be created after applying this patch.

PRODUCT HINTS
=============

o You must be superuser to use this package.

o Add "/var/opt/STORtools/bin" to your $PATH.

o Add "/opt/STORtools/man" to your $MANPATH environment variable.

o The following example modifies $PATH and $MANPATH in Korn/Bourne Shell:

  # PATH=/var/opt/STORtools/bin:$PATH
  # export PATH
  # MANPATH=/var/opt/STORtools/man:$MANPATH
  # export MANPATH

o The following example modifies PATH and MANPATH in C Shell:

  % setenv PATH /var/opt/STORtools/bin:$PATH
  % setenv MANPATH /var/opt/STORtools/man:$MANPATH

NOTE: If you do not have a PATH or MANPATH defined, do not include the :$PATH
  or :$MANPATH portion on the setenv commands.

o Enter the following to execute and display the StorTools Main Menu:

  # stormenu

o When upgrading from StorTools 3.2 or applying the 109090-05 patch
  always create a new snapshot. StorTools 3.3 snapshots are slightly
  different and kept in a different directory that their 3.2
  counterparts. Use the menu or type:

  # storconfig -save

  Note: After applying 109090-05 you MUST create a new snapshot!

o You may now set up a cron job to rotate your T3 log. This is accomplished
  using the included newt300log script. Here is a sample crontab entry:

10 3 * * 0   /opt/STORtools/bin/newt300log

o Switches are not supported with StorTools 3.3 although some functions will
  still work. Switches have been improperly identified as unknown devices,
  other hosts, hba, etc. Use at your own risk.

KNOWN PROBLEMS
==============
The Veritas 3.0.2 CLI interface does not warn the user when
attempting to disable a path that does not have an alternate
path. Therefore StorTools does not support Veritas 3.0.2 from
the StorTools menu.

When removing the StorTools 3.3 package to install a previous version
of StorTools, you MUST remove the crontab entries manually. Also, you
MUST remove the file /var/opt/STORtools/logs/tools.cron. (Bugid 4342608)
See the crontab(1) man page for details.

Reference: 4288258 vxdmpadm error
Reference: 4323908 vxdmpadm disable no longer returns error code when there
                   is no alternate path.

TEST SUMMARY
============
DSQA recommends that StorTools 3.3 be released to be used with Solaris 8,
Solaris 2.7 and Solaris 2.6 as a troubleshooting aid and to maintain T3 and
A5000 storage arrays. All P1, P2, and P3 bugs have been closed. In addition to
testing the code with T3 and A5000 on the 2100 HBA's with ifp and socal
drivers, testing was also executed on the QLC2202 card using the latest
available (as yet unreleased) leadville drivers. Since testing was executed with
unreleased drivers, regression testing will need to be performed when they are
available.

The following items are to be considered.

o Limited testing was done with the Sun StorEdge PCI Single Fibre
  Channel Network Adapter board due to the fact that
  the Leadville Drivers and Sun StorEdge PCI Single Fibre Channel
  Network Adapter HBA have not been released.
  StorTools 3.3 requires Leadville drivers built after 03/22/2000.
o No testing was done in clustered, multi-host environments
o No testing was done with Solstice DiskSuite or Veritas (other than revision
  checking for patches).
