However, I have been called "stupid" byNsome folks who contribute to this group for thinking so. And the person deniedworking for Sun.MI suspect that there are quite a few still opposed at the thought of allowingNVMS to compete head to head against modern low cost platforms and they are notMall inside of Compaq. Many still seem convinced that VMS has a healthy futureLrelegated to a small niche and that the other systems can't hurt VMS in thatJniche. As such, they seem quite strongly opposed to any moves by Compaq toDspend/risk any money/advertising to make VMS compete againts NT etc.NSun is fully aware of the NT (and now Linux) threath and have/are taking stepsKto deal with that threath. Comapq seems blind to this (or feels that VMS isIinvincible) and doesn't seem to think some drastic actions are necessary.KSun also has shareholders, yet, Sun is capable of taking fairly significantNpricing/policy steps to combat the inroads made by NT/LINUX. But it seems thatLsome feel that Compaq cannot take such steps because it would jeoperdize theG"cash cow" that VMS brings and thus would not be liked by shareholders.------------------------------$Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2000 14:24:27 -0400&From: Dick Munroe <munroe@acornsw.com>#Subject: For Sale: VaxStation 3100s3Message-ID: <v04210122b51679c77280@[192.168.0.253]>CWe have a bunch (about 6 or so) VaxStation 3100s of various kinds. AWe're looking to sell them for $500 (plus shipping and handling) !without licenses.
