Recent versions of MGFTP client do issue a SIZE command to determine,Lroughly, the size of the file to be transferred. If the remote side doesn'tMsupport the SIZE command, then MGFTP client will actually look at the messageJcoming from the other side; many UNIX and PC servers will include the fileKsize in that message, and MGFTP will look for that, if necessary, to try todetermine the size of the file.N<150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for Index.by.name (xx.xx.xxx.xxx,9369)(3388304 bytes).1Not part of the FTP RFC, of course, but it works.NJust one of the reasons I prefer HGFTP to any of the other VMS FTP clients....J>> You are talking about a Windows FTP client pushing data at a VMS mgf0tp>> server, right?>5>No. A VMS client pulling data from a Mac ftp server.F>Comparison figures are either for the VMS client with Solaris; or for->Mac/Windows clients with the Mac ftp server.>M>I've tried type ascii/image, various modes (only stream supported), passive,I>various window sizes (4k-128k, 64k seems best, although the variation is>small).>MUnfortunately, I have no ideas about this either, other than to say that I'veLseen similar problems and never been able to figure out why. He also had anHindirect holding (via spouse or trust) of 118,876 and worth $3,847,000Gwhen it was reported on 5-Sep-01, but on 27-Nov-01 they were worth only$489,000GI hope he remembered to say goodbye to the $94 million he lost in about
3 months !CBTW, he also held 805,606 shares in Compaq, worth $15,709,000 as ofC8-Dec-00 (when reported) but worth only $7,669,000 as of 27-Nov-01.CIn total it looks like he's lost about $100 million in less than 12

Almost *everyday*Din the first half of this year he exerised Options to buy at $19 andGsold them at the going market rate of from about $85 to $45. EV8 had 4, at a reported cost of about 10% of chip areaLover a single-stream implementation, so any installation using as few as twoIstreams would benefit from it compared with using two separate processorsnI(with their significantly-increased synchronization latency compared withQDon-die multi-streaming) or even approaches that replicate the entireCprocessor core on-chip (at considerably higher area cost than SMT).VLYour viewpoint is hard to distinguish from one that suggests that the ES andIGS architectures are equally unimportant - since by definition almost anymIinstallation that requires more than a single Alpha processor today wouldiKhave benefited from EV8's ability to cut its processor count by a factor ofrKup to 4 (as I don't believe that EV8's implementation of SMT was limited tosGrunning only multiple threads from the same process - the academic workYKbehind it certainly wasn't limited in that sense).
