I know, that "midnight"Dhas crossed the meridian for many of you as I write this. Greetings, belated though they may be.BI remain disappointed at the state and the future of the operatingFsystem that has brought us all together. We've all made our individualHefforts to make it better. Please continue to support OpenVMS, and those#who work to sustain and improve it.BA lurker on this group wrote to me privately and made a few pointsDrelated to the millennium argument. It appears that there truly is aGnumber of "wrongs" that make a right, or at least an order of magnitudeHwhich does. As he said, "convention" dictated that 1-Jan-2000 marked theGbeginning of the new millennium, even though only 1999 years had passedEsince the date declared as the start of time A.D. (a.k.a. "the CommonEEra"). (The question of centuries never arose as a discussion topic.)FThis same "convention", apparently, dictates that OpenVMS has, for allApractical intents and purposes, been relegated to the scrap pile.FSo, we'll all be less productive from this point forward and will loseFmuch sleep thanx to viruses, blue screens and what-have-you. Though weCbe separated, we'll always be joined by our common experiences withOpenVMS.HIt's been a pleasure to be associated with all of you. While I recognizeFthat many of you do not share that sentiment, I still value all of youHand your collective intelligence and experience. I've learned a lot, andEhope that I've given back some small measure of the value I've gainedfrom being here.=May the New Year bring you much joy, success and contentment.EMay the New Millennium lead our progeny and theirs to a bright future filled with hope and prosperity.-- David J.
