The thing ILlike about this one is that all the calls are defined by the library, makingKthe main package cleaner. There is little worry about calling non-existentJentry points as the library package defines them all itself the first time8it's called (with a blank param or "INIT" as the param).-Here's what a calling parent would look like:$ @lib$ lib$echo "Hello"KA simple example, huh? The first line initializes the routines, the second.executes a call to the desired library module.LThis is what a pared down library would look like; I recommend cleaning thisDup a bit, watch your symbol scope, etc., as mentioned in many of theprevious posts.LIB.COM/$ if (p1 .eqs. I sense a battle approaching and was looking for> some ammunition.GThe studies where done, but nearly 20 years ago... Good luck on finding7a copy. If anyone knows where Ric Seaforth is now days?ELAT is 'chatty' if it has no other traffic. But that is SO low a loadFit is not even worth thinking about. What LAT does do, is seen ALL theEtrafic over a circuit between a host and server in one packet, unlessEit overflows into a second. And with a 100 lines on a 550, that couldGhappen. With Telnet, you are sending a full telnet/TPC/IP load for nearEevery character in the terminal to host direction. LAT also waits forGa short time before sending the first char so as to increase the traficagregation.BWith the larger terminal servers, and high traffic, a 10:1 trafficFdiference on the wire is not out of the question. But, LAT is not veryBtollerant of out of spec LANs. It has timers in the 70-250ms range>that are hard coded in. It also does not like high lost packet=rates. The normal 'gothya' is bridging over a too slow serialBline. The transit delays can take it too the limit. Add in queuingCdelays, and it will start dropping circuits and complaining. If youAare also having trouble with MOP loads, then I'll bet packets arebeing lost.FAdd to that the need with TCP for routers, configuration, loss of autoFconnect, prefered services, monitoring and managment set ups... If thenet is OK, LAT 'just works'.BTO answer the thing about traffic on the net, telnet will generateFless bytes on the wire till you get to about 10 chars/sec. Because TPC?sends near nothing when idle. At 10 chars/sec, you will get ~10Fpackets/sec for LAT or telnet. As the numbers go up, LAT will increaseEto about 15/sec MAX EVER. Telnet will keep going up and up... This isCin the simple one-one case. If you have multiple hosts and servers,Eyou top out at about 15 packets/sec/pair. Also if you are moving moreCthan (I think) 1K/sec, the packet count will go up due to the slotsEneeding a second packet. Several printers on one server is the normalEway you get this, or X sessions. So the only time telnet wins is whenDit does not matter... Oh and if the LAN is iffy, it will not notice,>not warn anyone and just keep getting worse and worse with outwarning.BYes, if telnet is so much better performing, why is it not used toconnect X-terms to systems?...-- <Paul Repacholi 1 Crescent Rd.,7+61 (08) 9257-1001 Kalamunda.@ West Australia 6076.Raw, Cooked or Well-done, it's all half baked.HSpam-To: uce@ftc.gov,enforcement@sec.gov,sness@fcc.gov,hfurchtg@fcc.gov,# mpowell@fcc.gov,gtristan@fcc.gov ------------------------------%Date: Sun, 06 May 2001 01:05:47 +00015From: GiftBaskets <giftbaskets@online-promotions.net>3Subject: Mother's Day Specials from GiftBaskets.com5Message-ID: <205.168811.647034@online-promotions.net><html><head><title>Gift Baskets</title>H<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"></head><body bgcolor="#FFFFCC" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" text="#000000" link="#000000" vlink="#000000" alink="#000000"><div align="center">@ <table width="490" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> " <td>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <font face="sans-serif" size="-1" color="#000000">MonsterHut.com solicits its data from a variety of online sources, if you would rather y not receive any further promotions from MonsterHut.com either <a href="mailto: remove@monsterhut.com" target="_blank" r style="color: #000000">Click here</a> or see the unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of this email. </font>4 <hr width="85%" size="1" color="#C0C0C0" noshade>G <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td colspan="2"> # <div align="center"> O <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">) <tr bgcolor="#000000"> <td colspan="3" height="1"><img src="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/images/1pix.gif" width="1" height="1"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#000000" width="1"><img src="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/images/1pix.gif" width="1" height="1"></td>+ <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> U+ <div align="center"> N <table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=500>" <tbody> <tr> n+ <td colspan=2> a] <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="4" cellpadding="0">r% <tr> U' <td> u; <div align="center"><a K href="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/mothersday.html"><img nw border=0 src="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/images/title_text2.gif" width="225" height="89"></a></div>l' </td>r' <td> C; <div align="center"><a -M href="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/home.htm"><img border=0 +j src="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/images/gb_logo.gif" width="225" height="89"></a></div>' </td>c% </tr>t& </table>! </td>0 </tr>d1 <tr bgcolor="#000033"> <td colspan=2 height="3"><img src="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/images/1pix.gif" width="1" height="3"></td>w </tr>e <tr> - <td colspan="2"> i] <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">c% <tr> 8G <td width="222" bgcolor="#CCFFFF"><a P href="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/mothersdaybasket.htm"><img w border=0 src="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/images/bg_mb_3moth.jpg" width="222" height="222"></a></td>e <td bgcolor="#000033" width="1"><img src="http://giftbaskets.online-promotions.net/images/1pix.gif" width="1" height="1"></td>9 <td bgcolor="#CCCCFF"> ,9 <div align="center"> f <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="12" cellpadding="0">- <tr> gf <td><font face="Verdana, Arial, sans-serif" size=2>Mother's O Day is May 13th.
