In looked at Compaq's web pages the only9 thing I could see was a marketing type page that outlined 7 various broad features, but it wasn't very specific.  I : notice that it mentioned IEEE floating point support.  I'm8 aware of the DATE4$() support from the previous version.  : Does the IEEE floating support extend to the Vax compiler?; Are there any other new features? End of story.    True story:   @ A fellow in class, and myself, is working on building a wireless@ broadband ISP business here in the western 'burbs of Chgo. SeemsH especially appropos since Sprint Broadband Direct just announced they'reD pulling out of that market - seems they can't serve an entire metro.H area (M.A.N.) with a single POP near the top of Sears Tower (WTC, aside,	 that is).   D He asked me should we be looking at running our servers on VMS, likeE dls.net and fsi.net. I had to be frank with him, and not just because F we're both in a Solaris class: I had to tell him that both VMS-capableH hardware and the operating software are priced well beyond what we couldE afford, and that we could do just as well, if not better, with either F Solaris/Intel, Linux or FreeBSD on a big Proliant or a big Dell server( (what ever Dell calls its upscale line).  H See, there's this whole affordability gap that's holding VMS (and Alpha) back.   / Trouble is, I'm the only one who believes it...   2 ...outside of the would-be customer base, that is.   --   David J. What happened to us was dust built uprA in the air passages and prevented the regulators for being cooled H properly. Upon removable of the bad one, the dust had to be back-flushedG out with one of those "jet dusters" (we didn't have an air hose handy).    -- y David J.
