If so, this should be done at"5the same time you get the VMS license, and all neededo3licenses should be registered before installing anyr9layered products. (Most VAX LP's let you install without 3license, but most Alpha LP's require the license beo9installed first. In either case, no license will usuallyecause the IVP to fail.) 6I think layered products license issues are the single6biggest problem people have with the hobbyist program.5at least judging by the traffic in c.o.v. Usually itd4seems to be a problem that people don't realize they7have to download the LP licenses *in addition to* a VMSelicense for their platform.3Also, it seems like you need a VMS license for eachg5system (but I only have one VAX and one Alpha, so I'mo5not sure of this), but a single set of LP licenses ise9all you need or can get for all of them. My VAX licensesu7run out in October. When I got my Alpha in the spring,=5the Montagar site gave me a new AlphaVMS license, but 3wouldn't give me a new set of LP licenses, since myc4old set hadn't expired yet. I loaded the VAX set on8my Alpha with no problems, and this October I'm planning0to get a new VAX VMS license and a new set of LP5licenses and install the LP licenses on both systems.m6I think this should be spelled out more clearly on the1web site, or in this proposed Hobbyist User Guide. (which I think is a great idea.)-----h6I have loaded all the licenses on my systems, even for8products I have no intention of using. It's easier just6to save the email into a .COM file, remove the non-DCL5at the beginning and end, and execute it. In theory,o:paring down the licenses to only what is needed would make9the license manager more efficient, but I haven't noticede:any license check slowness even on a MicroVAX 3600. Maybe+on an MV-II, it would be worth the trouble.t8I do keep the command file around, and when the licenses4expire after a year, I mung it to disable and remove:all the licenses instead of adding them.
