I tried the first flavour of command, and ZIP gaveC> me the mysterious message "zip warning: name not matched: cdrom".DI'm guessingthat you have a logical name CDROM set up. In that case,!specify the extension explicitly:	CDROM.ZIPD...or use another filespec - it's a just sampel archive name I chosearbitrarily.E> It then created a file as follows - don't ask me how it got to that> file name> ?> ZI971748.;1 467541/467550 14-OCT-2002 03:39:46.32FWell, that's the temp file ZIP builds the archive in. It lives in yourHcurrent default, and it'll try to rename it to the archive name and pathCspecified on the command line if that includes your current defaultFdevice, either explicitly or by default. Otherwise, it will copy it to0the destination. Try RENAME-ing it to CDROM.ZIP.DFWIW, I make that as 61% compression in the aggregate. 228.29MB down2from 573.73MB. Better than 2:1, but not quite 3:1.-- David J. As you may know VMS 7.3-1 is the first version of VMS that Ghas some USB support. One of the devices supported is a USB mouse with 3scrolling. And since I'm using Mozilla ............LThe first problem I stumbled upon was the fact hat I could not boot the VMS K7.3-1 CD with my new USB card installed (it had been installed for several Qmonths already). With the card removed I was able to install VMS 7.3-1, but when MI reinstalled the USB card, the system hang at DECnet startup (also at TCPIP startup as I noticed later).OI dropped a small message to a HP VMS engineer who's e-mail address I happened Pto have (and who would not like his name to be published here), and then things Jstarted to roll. Over a couple of days we exchanged many e-mails, and his Oexcellent help lead to the present situation where the USB ports and the mouse Pare visible. I will have to do some more work for DecWindows, but I will post a -message later when that part is resolved too.KThe problem was traced to a hardware design problem of the PWS. Instead of Mreporting one interrupt for the USB card, two interrupts were reported. This Mconfused VMS rather much, and when the network protocols started looking for Dtheir interface cards (in the startup phase), the whole system hang.JBefore I go on let me make it very clear that there is no support for USB Hdevices on the PWS (or other older types of workstations). So all these Pworkarounds are not official, and not garantueed. On the other hand if it works Tand you like a scroll mouse and to do a bit of experimenting, you can give it a try.JFirst of all you need a USB card with the Lucent or Agere USS344 chipset, Mbecause that chipset is supported by the USB drivers. It will give you 4 PCI Lports and busses with a speed of 11 Mbit/sec. each. (Not 4 ports on 1 bus !)OIf you have such a card, do not install it before you have installed VMS 7.3-1 Q!! Once you have done that, you will have to edit sys$system:sys$config.dat, and Pcomment out the lines about the Lucent USS344 USB card. The hardware problem in Qcombination with this entry made the system hang. When you have done all that it Qis save to install the card. But keep in mind that whenever you need to boot the 3VMS 7.3-1 CD, you will have to remove the USB card.KTo get the card working, you will need to do several things. I have made a Pcommandfile that explains what to do, and it will make the USB ports visible to Othe system. Please drop me an e-mail if you are interested, and I will mail it to you.LWhen the ports are visible, and you have run usb$startup, you can connect a Mmouse and it will become visible. Not directly usable mind you, for that you Qwill have to make changes to DecWindows too. When I've mastered that I will post 0another message. But I'm confident it will work.------------------------------End of INFO-VAX 2002.567************************////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
