We run a Sun B Ultra system as a DHCP server here that services WELL in excess ofC 1000 addresses with no notable downtime or load on the system. So, the first allocation exceeds what you have to work with. Remember, there are 10 reserved files, andC with a large cluster size, all the ones with nonzero size will be a K multiple of the cluster size.  These are 000000.DIR, INDEXF.SYS, BITMAP.SYS J and SECURITY.SYS, and BADBLK.SYS if the disk size is not an exact multipleK of the cluster size.  Since its size of 4110480 is an exact multiple of 2,  G 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12... experiment with /CLUSTER of these small I values, and with /MAXIMUM_FILES=11.  All the reserved files will be small F and multiples of the cluster size except for BITMAP.SYS, which will be< inversely proportional.
