The ESE20 had to fake the HSCBBout by sending rotational position information down the SDI cable,;even though there is such thing as rotational position in ahCsolid-state disk, of course. As I recall, the ESE20 acted as if it/Ewere rotating, with 4 sectors per track, just to keep the HSC happy. tB(An Enhanced mode later eliminated the RPS requirement, for higherI/Os per second.)FAToday information about rotational position is hidden deep in theCdrives themselves; controllers can't readily optimize across drivesNEbased on rotational position (one exception to this is array products>Bwhich use signals to keep the rotational position of a set of SCSIEdrives used for a RAID array in exact synchronization). In practice, Ftrack read-head buffers in individual drives help make up for the lack*of exact knowledge of rotational position.------------------------------%Date: Wed, 29 Jan 2003 14:50:11 -0000t3From: "Tom Wade" <t.wade@vms.eurokom.removespam.ie>t0Subject: Installing second ethernet card (DE500)*Message-ID: <b18pmb$6nh$1@kermit.esat.net>
