Imagine, ifCyou will, me sitting here with my VAX and somebody out there in theFInternet universe tries to connect to port 25. No problem - TCPIP for=OVMS runs the TCPIP$SMTP_RECEIVER.EXE program to talk to him.D My end and the other end exchange HELOs and maybe a MAIL FROM, andDthen the other side sends RCPT TO and an address. Now, if the otherCside says something like RCPT TO: <user@somewhere-else.com> and you8have relay disabled (and you're nuts if you don't!) then?TCPIP$SMTP_RECEIVER immediately says "551 User not local, RelayFdisabled." and that's the end of it. Obviously TCPIP$SMTP_RECEIVER hasBsome ability to parse the RCPT TO address, or it couldn't do this.@ My question is, given that TCPIP$SMTP_RECEIVER already has the@ability to parse the email address, why, when the other end says:something like RCPT TO: <bogus-user@mydomain.com>, doesn'tFTCPIP$SMTP_RECEIVER just immediately say "550 No such user." ?? If it;would just do this, then the whole problem would be solved!8 At first I thought this was just a failing in the OVMSEimplementation, but I've tried it on other, non-VMS, SMTP servers and@they work the same way. What is it about SMTP that I don't knowhere??Thanks,
