However if you read into areas the drive I thinks are uninitialized you just get an error. This depends on the drive J and its implementations of media size. There is a lot of smoke and mirrorsH there to make things look kinda/sorta like 9 tracks which underneath areC very different. With a SCSI command manual for these drives you can @ sometimes find drive specific commands that will let you see theF unabstracted device and do things with it that are outside normal tapeE behavior. Under VMS the io$_diagnose stuff is the way to use such odd H commands.
