Sometime around 1973, there was a new community college that was Fconsidering the purchase of a mini-computer. Proposals were accepted Hfrom DEC, HP, Harris Computer and IBM. The minimum specs were compared Ato each proposal with the most weight being applied to real time Hinteractivity with each user. We ended up purchasing the DEC PDP 11/45 Dwhich was later upgraded to the PDP 11/70 and then traded for a VAX I11/780. It does seem interesting that one of the companies that came in Hsecond ended up owning the company that won the bid for the college and Ilater won the bid for the entire administrative computer systems for the Bstate college system. I can't help from thinking what would have Ahappened if we had gone with HP or Harris (IBM couldn't meet the Gprice/interactivity specs). To this day, the state is almost entirely 0Alpha/VMS driven for the administrative systems.------------------------------%Date: Sun, 23 May 2004 19:09:38 +0100)From: Tony Arnold <tony.arnold@man.ac.uk>Subject: Re: ssh on TCP/IP 5.4@Message-ID: <40b0e8e3$0$20517$cc9e4d1f@news-text.dial.pipex.com> Peter 'EPLAN' LANGSTOEGER wrote:i> In article <40afb12f$0$17781$cc9e4d1f@news.dial.pipex.com>, Tony Arnold <tony.arnold@man.ac.uk> writes:> I>>I've been trying to make use of the ssh service that comes with TCP/IP F>>5.4 running on 7.3-2.
