I'm using a Toshiba XM-3801 SCSI driveDmade in 1997, and apparently the firmware in there was buggy becauseDit was giving me all sorts of strange errors when reading files fromEthe CD-ROM when I tried to install VMS 7.2-2. Fortunately, I found aAfirmware update for it (search for "xm3801up.zip"), found a PC toDinstall it from (I used the IBM/Hitachi Drive Fitness Test disk as aBboot floppy which had the ASPI drivers required for the DOS updateDprogram), and amazingly, OpenVMS 7.3-1 is now up and running. Plus,?my $4.95 video card runs DECwindows as well as can be expected.DI have a new question: when my "new" Alpha workstation arrives fromEthe eBay seller, will I be able to simply swap the hard drive into itAand boot, or do I have to reinstall the OS? Does OpenVMS installDdifferent versions of any images for the EV5 vs. the EV45? Will theDcompletely different h/w configuration confuse it or will the kernelEautomatically detect the changes and load the correct device drivers?-Jake------------------------------%Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 08:28:08 +02002From: martin@radiogaga.harz.de (Martin Vorlaender)>Subject: Re: Frustration! If you run into this, do this: >>> b -fl x,1 (where xEis a number (probably 0) specifying which root to boot from. At theGSYSBOOT> prompt enter USE DEFAULT. You may want to do this regardless.FRun AUTOGEN once booted. Run AUTOGEN regardless of whether you had todo the SYSBOOT default thing.> Does OpenVMS installE>different versions of any images for the EV5 vs. the EV45? See above about wildly mismatched autogenned parametersconfusing matters.-- -Mike------------------------------Date: 9 Apr 2005 17:53:51 -0700From: bob@instantwhip.com*Subject: Re: Quintara web-mail for OpenVMSBMessage-ID: <1113094431.592577.28500@z14g2000cwz.googlegroups.com>@that version of Purveyor is not the last release ... they should?upgrade to 2.1 ...
