Ready-mix is the norm in most urban areas for goodJreason - QC is easier to manage at the ready-mix yard than asking a driverto add water at the site.GMost concrete specified for big commercial jobs is sampled pre-pour forKslump and other properties which are discernable at that time. For criticalGjobs, small samples from each truckload are often poured into molds andKallowed to cure before being crushed to the point of failure to ensure thatKthe delivered and placed concrete meets specs. Very cool machines do this -Gwatching a concrete core exploding under pressure is fun. But that is the way to create trulyMlow cost machines, while you keep your leading edge Power5 chips for the high

There is no way that Intel can continue toCeconomically sink money for a chip that only gives it chip revenus.GIn the case of Alpha and Pa-Risc, the chips generated hefty profits for6systems and sofwtare sales at Digital/HP respectively.KIBM not only gets the benefits of Power for its systems and software sales,Ebut it also has the volume sales to folks like Apple and game consoleJmanufacturers to help lower the cost of Power. Power scales from miniatureMcomputers to some of the world's fastest supercomputers. (perhaps Intel had helped placeHPalmer there to help AMD's bankrupcy ?). With AMD gone, Intel could have7slowly killed the 8086 and made IA64 industry standard.JBut as was evident last year, the introduction of AMD's 64 bit 8086 forcedNIntel to completely cancel its plans to kill the 8086 because not only had AMDKnot disapeared, but they were now gaining solid ground and much credibilityKwith superior chips. So Intel had to do a 180 and announce a 64 bit 8086 toLstay in the competition. Another sign that Intel had given up on the bloatedIA64 experiment.IIA64 is worse off than Alpha ever was.
