I've just always ran it with 2 or 3 parameters, but asyou2> say one is enough and in this case the solution.DOTOH, a word of caution. I don't know if this applies to VMS v7.3-x,Gbut it does to VMS v6.2: Running with TESTFILES as the end phase causesAGENPARAMS to skip making a new VMSIMAGES.DAT. This is a potentialproblem.6Still, like another poster said, you can simply searchBAGEN$FEEDBACK.DAT for the peak page- and swapfiles usages. AUTOGEN@generally tries to make a pagefile that's twice that size if theFcurrent pagefile is too small. If the current pagefile is too large itGgoes part way from the current too-large size to double the peak usage.DI'm not as familiar with the SWAPFILE algorithm, though I think it's>similar but aims for somewhat less than double the peak usage.EI recommned erring on large pagefiles. Unless you're hurting for disk<space, why not just make them too large and be done with it!EHey, if AUTOGEN could do everything by itself, there'd be no need forsystem managers![...]------------------------------%Date: Sun, 22 May 2005 14:24:10 -0400'From: Dave Froble <davef@tsoft-inc.com>1Subject: Re: Big round of job cuts expected at HP0Message-ID: <1191jgukt1u0895@corp.supernews.com>David J Dachtera wrote:> "Dr. Dweeb" wrote:> 1>>Phillip Helbig---remove CLOTHES to reply wrote:>>8>>>In article <429031CA.7AE0192B@teksavvy.com>, JF Mezei)>>><jfmezei.spamnot@teksavvy.com> writes:>>>>>>4>>>>7,500 to 15,000 job cuts expect by August at HP.>>> >>>How many of those within VMS?>>>>>>H>>>>Doesn't augur well for VMS engineering which need bigger budgets andI>>>>manpower to start working to improve VMS at the same time as they are$>>>>expected to port it to the 8086.>>><>>>Is there a statement that VMS will be ported to the 8086?>>>>>>D>>>>If the start layhing off the people who have experience with theD>>>>port to that IA64 thing, they will lose people who would be most'>>>>efficient for the port to the 8086.>>><>>>Is there a statement that VMS will be ported to the 8086?>>J>>AFAIK, No, and the only person propogating this idea is JF, who seems to)>>have it stuck like a bee in his bonnet.> > G> Actually, there's a fair contingent of folks who have responded to myC> free poll about whether Digital should have completed the Emerald-> Project, overwhelmingly in the affirmative.> F> ...and when Itanic finally ends up in Davy Jones's locker*, kiss VMS/> good-bye if there's no x86-64 port, at least.> > *:C> One has to wonder how much longer it will be before Intel's stockG> holders demand that it drop the Itanic, which since its inception hasI> been nothing but a money pit. Intel only makes money on selling the CPU. With Power, IAlpha, Sparc, and such, the company can look at the bottom line and say, Dif we were counting solely on the CPU, we'd be hurting, but what it &allows us to do is overall profitable.EIt's when the clueless beancounters become involved that things come Iapart. They propose keeping all the good profitable parts and switch to Ha 'commodity CPU'. As always with beancounters who never know product, Ijust beans, all the profitable parts go away with the CPU that made them Apossible. Since beancounters only care about the next quarter's Cresults, thoughts of an outside vendor discontinuing the part that 7enables the rest of their business totally bypass them.Dave-- 4David Froble Tel: 724-529-04504Dave Froble Enterprises, Inc.
