In an ANSI tape volume, after the Volume header files,Keach named file stored on the tape is actually made up of two physical tapeJfiles; first the header file (which describes the attributes of the file),followed by the data file.JThe ANSI specification does state that two consecutive file marks found in@place of the header file does indeed indicate the end of volume.ISo if you are planning to copy an ANSI volume to another ANSI volume, youHshould mount both source and target as ANSI volumes and use the VMS COPYJcommand. If it is a foreign tape format, you can either use your TAPE COPYJprogram or the VMS BACKUP/PHYSICAL command. The latter is much more robustHthan most copy programs. It can even handle ANSI multi-volume extensionsBwhen the source and target tapes are of different physical length.Jeff------------------------------End of INFO-VAX 2005.621************************=yvJ7압1&֡y|r<^ud!+YFpبqt|EO")I?C'>?k^Уݽ>>!ǩ+o@t&\YKjbl{Kt]-l5{95| Fjp̈X;zI9o1OY%4DL
