Might still be worth actually trying SET ITER/VT100 to see if most basic emulation works. Otherwise startup IP and Ftelnet into the box using a decent terminal emulator (Putty is a good Gfree one). BeyondCthe simple issue of consistency within a file when backing up indexDstructures as well as data, there is also the problem of consistencyCbetween files which have related data and need to be backed up in a7consistent fashion, even if they are on separate disks.ASo at this point, a human who understands the applications on theDmachine must design a backup plan that will work. The poolMof drives to use in a sysbak is specified by the "media type" associated withOthe job. For instance, a media type of DLT3XT would have a list of drives thatOcould operate at that density. As this point, there is a single media type forMthe whole job. The list is just a list; there is no mechanism for "preferreddrives".HSuch a mechanism could certainly be requested via the enhancement list. @Parallel backups itself came about from such a customer request.MIn the meantime, there is a way to do pretty much what you want, if you don'tFmind splitting the priority and regular disks into two backup jobs andMsplitting the fast and slow drives in a similar fashion. Without knowing theMexact disk and drive ratios, it is hard to predict whether this would help ornot.OAnyway, you would create two media types instead of one: FAST_DLT and SLOW_DLT.JYou would assign the drives to the two lists accordingly. Then create twoLbackup jobs, one containing the hot backups and and using the FAST_DLT mediaJtype. The other job would back up the regular stuff with the slow drives.2Say you had five fast drives and five slow drives.C$ tape oper add/media=fast_dlt/drives=(drive1,drive2, ...)/phys=dltC$ tape oper add/media=slow_dlt/drives=(drive1,drive2, ...)/phys=dltK(In this simple scenario, we will ignore other possible qualifiers, such as /location, /density, and /node.)KSo then you have two backup definition (.sbk) files instead of one, and twoindependent jobs. Both .sbk files contain $ parallel_backups == 1$ n_drives == 5%as before, but different media types:$ media_type == "fast_dlt"and$ media_type == "slow_dlt" 3and different lists of disks to back up, of course.LBasically the hot backups would compete with each other for the fast drives,2and the less critical backups for the slow drives.WayneO===============================================================================NWayne Sewell, Tachyon Software Consulting (281)812-0738 wayne@tachysoft.com;http://www.tachysoft.com/www/tachyon.html and wayne.html O===============================================================================PJake Blues:"You traded the Caddy for a microphone? ......
