Broadband unlike dialup is generally based on a fixed monthly fee rather P than on the time connected or number of bytes downloaded (though some providers E do impose limits on the latter). Hence in effect the media is "free". F HP doesn't provide facilities to allow the downloading of VMS (so that( hobbyists could burn their own VMS cds).    

Other F reasons are the neglect of the vendor, almost no visibility in the IT  world, etc.   B You cannot really compare VMS and Solaris.  VMS is rather unique. I Solaris is basically Unix. I have a file called F SMTP_CONFIG.TEMPLATE on one of the VAXes.  JF pointed out here a whileC back that this only shows up on fresh installs, not upgrades.  That E jibes with the fact that I did a fresh install of 5.1 on the VAX with E the template while the other VAX and the ALPHA were upgraded from UCX  4.2 or whatever.   So far, so good.  4 JF suggested this command to get the latest version:  L $ LIB/EXTRACT=SMTP_CONFIG/output=SMTP.CONFIG SYS$LIBRARY:TCPIP$TEMPLATES.TLB  . which seems to make sense.  On ALPHA, it says       ! Version:        V5.4-155    while TCPIP SH VERSION says       V5.4 - ECO 5   H so this seems to make sense.  On the VAX with the template, however, theF same command produces a file whose contents are identical with the 5.1F template (it says it is 5.1 at the top of the file).
