I have to ask about your (Process Software) &perceptions on how such would be used.BAs for VMS, TCP/IP, languages, and such, I can see their use in a hobbyist environment.IHowever, when talking about E-Mail, Spam blocking, and such, I don't see Hmuch of non-commercial use for such products. People will probably not Ebe using them strickly on their own systems, limited to mail between Etheir systems. They're going to set the products up to handle their Fe-mail coming from outside. This is something they normally get with 8their commercial ISP services which most are paying for.HSo hobbyists will be setting up the products to handle their email, and Hprobably their family's email, and possibly others also. Some of these Dpeople will be using the email for their work. Right now I'm a one Gperson business, with no real differences between my home and my work. :My use of the products could be considered commercial use.GSo what's your perspective when hobbyist activity and a small business 2are basically the same thing? checking. MThere are advantages and disadvantages to both methods. The main disadvantageMof the proxy approach from a PMDF site's perspective is that messages passingLthrough the proxy would appear to just come from the ip address of the proxyKrather than from external IP addresses. This would rob PMDF of much of it'sKpower in being able to do different things to messages depending upon wherethey have come from.OOn the other hand the proxy approach allows spam messages to be detected and if+desired rejected during the SMTP dialogue. K(The PMDF channel approach means that PMDF has to have accepted the messageK,ie the SMTP dialogue has completed, before scanning can occur. Hopefully aLfuture version of PMDF will allow PMAS to be called during the SMTP dialogueGthus retaining the power of PMDF but allowing rejection during the SMTP
dialogue.)DI would expect that a hobbyist would want to use both PMDF and PMAS.LAssuming the hobbyist version hasn't cut anything out then as well as being 1a great mailserver standard PMDF also includes :-1) IMAP server
2) POP server63) PMDF MAIL - a VMS mail clone which can handle MIME 4) PINE5) Mail list serverH6) DELIVER - this is an improved version of the mail handler over the public domain versionMJust the ability to send and receive MIME mail messages which PMDF MAIL gives(should be enough reason to install PMDF.MPMDF TLS - which allows the use of POP, IMAP and SMTP over SSL is an optionalGproduct in PMDF hence I don't know whether that will be included in theOhobbyist offering.
