However, I find that NOONE Hseems to have a set of OVERHEAD views for DEC/CPQ/HP gear. That, IMHO, Gis what you really need to make an accurate layout of a computer room. BYou need accurate width and depth measurements primarily. Having G"service access" recommendations or guidelines would also be nice (how Hfar does that VAX6000 back door extend when swung open?). In addition, Ilocation of the power cord and top/bottom openings are also good to have.HWhen we reengineered our lab last year I scrounged all the installation Band userguide manuals for our hardware and "crafted" my own Visio Gtemplates for each type system in Visio using the dimensions listed in Dthe documentation. This was a nice idea, but since my knowledge of @Visio is limited (especially when compared to my abilities with AIntergraph's VMS-based IGDS), I was unable to create images that Hmaintained accurate measurements that sized in perspective to the floor Hplan layout grid. For each iteration of the floor plan I had to resize Eeach system image to it's correct dimensions, save and then copy for Feach duplicate. It was a tedious process, but it was the only option for what I needed.EI imagine there's a way to make those templates work better IF I had Gmore time to put into investigating their creation and use of the tool Fitself. Most of the other templates that are provided with Visio are Falso of the same nature, though. You select one, place it roughly in ;your floor plan and then size it and finalize the position.HThe neat thing about using Visio, very similar to IGDS, was the ability Cto turn on different levels or layers. I was able to separate the Doverhead wiring trays, data wiring, the computer room floor itself, %underfloor data and underfloor power.GUnless you can use a different more fully-featured CAD sort of package Cthen Visio is a workable solution. The necessary measurements and Idimensions are in the installation and user guide documentation for each Gtype system you have. Ditto for any racks you mount your servers into.bob------------------------------%Date: Sat, 23 Sep 2006 16:42:32 -04003From: "Richard B. A "fully featured CAD package" is even more difficult for the Gcasual user. I've used both AutoCAD and Visio and I much prefer Visio for *relative* ease of use.------------------------------%Date: Sat, 23 Sep 2006 15:00:28 -0500.From: "Dave Gudewicz" <dlgudewicz@comcast.net>!Subject: Re: hp advocacy web site:Message-ID: <Y8qdnZN69_LuD4jYnZ2dnUVZ_sCdnZ2d@comcast.com>,"Ian Miller" <ijm@uk2.net> wrote in message =news:1158929248.560661.247970@i42g2000cwa.googlegroups.com...?> anyone know what happened to http://www.hpuseradvocacy.org/ ?>5Its been MIA for at least 2 weeks now.
