BULLETINBOARD This command invokes the 'BULLETINBOARD' utility, which allows users on the NRL network to read and post messages under a number of topic boards. In addition, the bulletin board is regularly updated with the latest postings from a number of internet and local topic boards. The Bulletin Board utility is menu driven and has its own help file. To run the utility enter the following command statement at the DCL level prompt: BULLETINBOARD The command can be shortened to 'BULLETIN'. The Bulletin Board data base is maintained by the RCD. You can add messages to many of the bulletin topics. A few of the topic boards are "protected", which means that only designated persons may add messages to the board. If you attempt to add a message to a protected board, you will receive a message notifying you that you cannot post to that board. Some of the protected boards are CCF-NEWS and NRL-INSTRUCTIONS. You can delete any messages which you have added to a board. We encourage you to add messages to the CALENDAR topic if you have an event scheduled that will be of general interest to the NRL community. Topic boards are set up by the RCD. If you would like to see a topic board for a subject which does not currently exist, contact the consultant by sending electronic mail to mailbox CONSULTANT. If there is sufficient interest, the RCD will add a board for your topic. Generally, Bulletin Board messages are kept posted online thirty days. Messages over thirty days old are deleted so that the boards do not become too crowded. This also improves the performance of the Bulletin Board utility, since it reduces the size of the data base. To assist you in running the Bulletin Board program, an additional document is available in the DOCUMENT directory as: DOC$INFO:BULLETINBOARD.GUIDE This help document contains extended information on the program's functions. Your comments and suggestions for improving the utility are encouraged. Please send them to mailbox CONSULTANT.
