Introduction to the Lynx Hypertext Browser

			     Version 1.06

Lynx is a program that displays distributed hypertext documents. It
will display hypertext documents containing links to files residing on
the local system, as well as links to files residing on remote systems
running Gopher servers. Lynx also performs most Gopher client
functions and can process special hypertext links that launch programs
on both local and remote systems. These special links are used to
integrate database systems into the hypertext network.

This document introduces the general notion of "hypertext", as it is
used with Lynx, and then discusses special capabilities of Lynx,
including the ability to access files managed by Gopher servers and
launch programs on remote systems as part of the hypertext network.
This description concludes with summaries of Lynx command-line
options, interactive commands, link syntax, and environment variables.

Lynx provides the software platform for the Campus Wide Information
System at the University of Kansas. If you have access to the
Internet you can experiment with this Lynx application by telnetting
to kufacts.cc.ukans.edu and loggin into the account "kufacts".
Exposure to this Lynx application should help clarify the description
of Lynx presented in this document.
