		!!! DFU I2.4 READY !!!

		To : All DFU subscribers

	1. Introduction

	DFU version 2.4 is ready. The kit is available on:

	UTRTSC::SYS$PUBLIC:DFU_INTERNAL_024.A ( 3852 blocks)

	See the list in .4 for new features.

	2. Installation and documentation

	The kit can be installed with VMSINSTAL. During installation
	you have the option to install DFU systemwide or to
        your personal directory.
	Documentation is in the .A saveset in PostScript, Lineprinter
	and BOOKreader format. You should read this first , especially
	when you have not been using DFU before.
	
	DFU can be installed on VAX/VMS 5.5-2 and higher up to 7.1
	and Alpha/VMS V6.1 through 7.1. 

	3. Restrictions and suport

	This version DFU is strictly INTERNAL USE ONLY. 
	Do not use DFU I2.4 onsite. Use the freeware version
        2.4 onsite. The Freeware version DFU V2.4 is available 
	on the Freeware CD (Freeware V3.0) shipped with VMS 7.1.
	I will release this version within one or two weeks
	on the above directory, because Freeware CD V3.0 is not
	yet available.

    	All questions / remarks/ problems should be directed to the
	author at UTRTSC::DORLAND. If you have a problem , then please
	mail me immediately. You will get a serious reply as soon as 
	possible. 

	4. Changes since I2.3

	The most important changes since the previous DFU version
	are :

	o SEARCH : /OVER_ALLOC to search for over alloated files
	o REPORT : several qualifiers to control the output
	o Usage of alphanumeric UIC's and Identifiers in the
	   /OWNER and /IDENTIFIER qualifiers.
	o VERIFY/DIRECTORY : make a complete directory scan (and 
	   repair errors); this makes it almost 100% compatible with
	   ANALYZE/DISK/REPAIR
	o /APPEND to append to an output file
	o Documentatiomn available in HTML format

	Several known problems were fixed. See the documentation
	for a complete list of all new features and bugfixes.

	5. Compatibility between FREEWARE and INTERNAL USE ONLY versions.

	The relation between DFU versions for internal use and freeware
	is as follows :

		INTERNAL USE ONLY		FREEWARE
		V1.7			-->	V2.1 (Freeware CD V1.0)
		V1.8				(not released as freeware)
		I2.2			-->     V2.2 (Freeware CD V2.0)
		I2.3				(not yet released as freeware)
		I2.4			-->     V2.4 (Freeware CD V3.0)
						(soon released)

	These versions are equivalent EXCEPT for the following
	commands :

		- INDEXF
		- DEFRAGMENT/DISK 

	Also the docmentation and help files are different such that there
	are no pointers/hints/references to these 2 commands in the freeware 
	versions.
