Digital has received permission from Netscape Communications Corporation to post Netscape Navigator V2.02 for OpenVMS on our site. This version of the Navigator is the SSB version--it is the same version as the Navigator included on the OpenVMS Internet Product Suite Version 1.0 CD-ROM. Please see the Help | How to Get Support menu option for information on support. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Downloading the Navigator V2.02 for OpenVMS versions The Navigator V2.02 software is available for both VAX and Alpha platforms. You can copy either the executable files (.EXE), or zipped (compressed) versions of the files. The zipped versions are smaller, but you need to use UNZIP to expand the zipped files. The following sections include information about getting and using UNZIP. [Size: 4011 blocks] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installing Navigator V2.02 on your OpenVMS system The following sections provide detailed instructions on how to install the files you need on your OpenVMS system. Please read through the entire process (including the list of required updates) before you download the Navigator images. Note that there are two different installation procedures. Click the item in the following list that describes which installation you will use: 1. You are replacing a previously installed version of the Navigator. 2. You are installing the Navigator on your OpenVMS system for the first time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Replacing a previously installed version of the Navigator If you have previously installed the Navigator from the OpenVMS Internet Product Suite Pre-EFT Kit (distributed at DECUS), or a previous field test version you downloaded from this website, use the following procedure: 1. Copy the downloaded image to: dest_root$:[INTERNET_PRODUCT_SUITE.NS_NAV_EXPORT.platform] Where: Variable Your value dest_root$SYS$SYSDEVICE:[VMS$COMMON] (default) or the location you specified platform VAX or ALPHA 2. If you copied the zipped version of the file, unzip the file. For help on getting UNZIP and setting it up on your system, click here. 3. Set default to dest_root$:[INTERNET_PRODUCT_SUITE.NS_NAV_EXPORT.platform] and rename the downloaded image to NETSCAPE-EXPORT.EXE. For example: For a VAX image: $ RENAME NETSCAPE-EXPORT-VAX-SSB-202.EXE NETSCAPE-EXPORT.EXE For an Alpha image: $ RENAME NETSCAPE-EXPORT-ALPHA-SSB-202.EXE NETSCAPE-EXPORT.EXE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installing the Navigator on your OpenVMS system for the first time If you have never installed the Navigator on your OpenVMS system before, use the following procedure: Step 1: Install updates as required. Install the following updates: 1. If you are running DECwindows Motif Version 1.2-3 for OpenVMS, install one of the following updates: o ALPMOTF07_U3012 (on Alpha systems) o VAXMOTF07_U3012 (on VAX systems) For more information about these updates, see: Digital Service: ECO search utility (http://www.service.digital.com:8031/) On a VAX or Alpha system, use the VMSINSTAL procedure to apply the DECwindows Motif updates. For example: $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL update_name device/directory Where: Variable Your value update_name ALPMOTF07_U3012 for Alpha systems VAXMOTF07_U3012 for VAX systems device/directorySpecify the disk or device and the full directory path to the update file. If you are running DECwindows Motif Version 1.2-4 for OpenVMS, you do not need to apply the update. 2. If you are running UCX, you must apply one of the following mandatory updates to your system before you install the Navigator. The specific update depends on which version of Digital TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS you are running. o For UCX Version 3.3 on a VAX or Alpha system, install UCXECO8-033. Use the VMSINSTAL procedure to apply the update. For example: $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL UCXECO8-033 device/directory Variable Your value device/directorySpecify the disk or device and the full directory path to the update file. o For UCX Version 4.0 on a VAX system, install UCXECO1-040. Use the VMSINSTAL procedure to apply the update. For example: $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL UCXECO1-040 device/directory Where: Variable Your value device/directorySpecify the disk or device and the full directory path to the update file. o For UCX Version 4.0 on an Alpha system, install UCXECO_40_1. Use the PRODUCT INSTALL command to apply the update. For example: $ PRODUCT INSTALL UCXECO_40_1 /SOURCE=device/directory Where: Variable Your value device/directorySpecify the disk or device and the full directory path to the update file. o For UCX Version 4.0A on an Alpha system, install UCXECO_A_40_1. Use the PRODUCT INSTALL command to apply the update. For example: $ PRODUCT INSTALL UCXECO_A_40_1 /SOURCE=device/directory Where: Variable Your value device/directorySpecify the disk or device and the full directory path to the update file. If you are using TGV, you must get the latest update from the Cisco/TGV FTP site. To get the update, use the following procedure: 1. ftp to eco.tgv.com 2. Log on as follows: username: anonymous password: UCXDRIVER035 3. ftp the following file: ECO-UCXDRIVER035.A Use the VMSINSTAL procedure to apply the update. For example: $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL ECO-UCXDRIVER035.A device/directory Where: Variable Your value device/directorySpecify the disk or device and the full directory path to the update file. Step 2: Copy the downloaded image. Copy the downloaded image to SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]. If you copied the zipped version of the file, unzip the file. For help on getting UNZIP and setting it up on your system, click here. Step 3: Rename the downloaded image. Set default to SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE] and rename the downloaded image to NETSCAPE-EXPORT.EXE. For example: For a VAX image: $ RENAME NETSCAPE-EXPORT-VAX-SSB-202.EXE NETSCAPE-EXPORT.EXE For an Alpha image: $ RENAME NETSCAPE-EXPORT-ALPHA-SSB-202.EXE NETSCAPE-EXPORT.EXE Step 4: Define a symbol for the Navigator. Set up a symbol to start the Navigator. For example: NETSCAPE == "$SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]NETSCAPE-EXPORT" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reporting problems Before reporting problems with the Navigator V2.02 for OpenVMS, please check the release notes to see if the problem has already been reported. To view the release notes, use the following procedure: 1. From the Navigator V2.02 menu bar, choose Help | Release Notes. The Navigator displays the release notes available on the OpenVMS website. 2. On your OpenVMS system, identify or create a directory where you want to keep the UNZIP executable file. Set default to this directory. 2. [UNZIP-AXP.EXE] Be sure that you save the UNZIP executable file to the correct directory. 3. Define UNZIP as a foreign command. For example: $ UNZIP :== $SYS$SYSDEVICE:[TOOLS]UNZIP-AXP 4. Enter the following command to unpack files: $ UNZIP "-V" filename.ZIP Note: The "-V" must appear exactly as shown: in quote marks, and using an uppercase V.
