1 Introduction
This section covers some introductory information about this document.
1.1 Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this document is to list all acronyms and to explain some common terms used in the Ericsson™ Dynamic Activation (EDA) Customer Product Information (CPI).
For the full list and description of Dynamic Activation documents, refer to Library Overview, Reference [1].
Terms not covered in this document are as follows:
- Industrial common terms, such as HTTP, X86, Java™, GSM, IP address. For detail information of such terms, refer to authentic web publications.
- Words used with their literal meaning, such as job, role, status. For detail information of such terms, refer to dictionary.
- Network element/solution specific terms, such as bearer capability, IMS private identity. For detail information of such terms, refer to CPI document of the network element/solution.
- Terms that refer to different meaning in different context. For detail information of such terms, refer to the actual document where the term is used.
- Niche terms used in few documents, such as BYB 501 and pool weight. For detail information of such terms, refer to the document where the term is used.
1.2 Target Groups
The target groups for this document are as follows:
- All users of the Dynamic Activation library.
For more information about different target groups, see Library Overview, Reference [1].
2 Terms
| Authentication Vector Generator | Generates authentication vectors used for authenticating the users accessing the system. | |
| Authentication Center | The node that provides authentication vectors used in authentication and ciphering processes to the HLR. This is to ensure confidentiality in the radio channels and prevent unauthorized access by end users. | |
| Centralized User Database | It is the data storage node used in the Ericsson UDC solution to allow consolidation of subscriber data for several application front ends. | |
| IDE | Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is a Software Development Kit (SDK) used for building adaptations for integration towards Multi Activation. | |
| Connection Pool | A group of connection alternatives that can be used to reach an NE. | |
| Customer database | An Oracle™ database that is created in advance by customer before customized classic Multi Activation installation. | |
| Customer Service Order | A provisioning operation initiated from BSS to Multi Activation. | |
| Data Access Enabler | It is the node that provides functionality for full and secure internet connectivity between enterprise applications and mobile devices. It provides functionality for exposing each device as a public DNS address and IP address on the Internet. This enables applications to initiate communication towards the device even though the device itself is using a private IP address. | |
| Evolved Packet System | An all IP-based system that supports various access networks such as LTE/SAE. | |
| Equipment Identity Register | The node that provides functionality according to 3GPP standards. These allow a network operator to control and restrict access to their GSM/WCDMA network for specific user equipment. | |
| Fallback/Rollback | Going back to the previous resource (such as component, application, server, network) when the resource is back to normal state, or going back to the previous content/state when the change is not satisfactory. | |
| Failover | Automatic switching to a redundant resource (such as component, application, server, network) upon the failure or abnormal termination of the previously active resource. | |
| Fixed/Mobile Convergence | The use of the same services for fixed and mobile communication. | |
| Flexible Numbering | The purpose of this function is to make it possible to choose MSISDN to IMSI connection without any constrains set by the HLR. | |
| Guest | Refers to the operating system and the application running on a Virtual Machine (VM). | |
| Home Location Register | The primary database repository for subscriber information used to provide control and intelligence. The HLR manages mobile subscriber profiles and location, as well as handling supplementary services. | |
| IP Multimedia Subsystem | It is an architectural framework for delivering IP (internet protocol) multimedia services. For users, IMS-based services enable communications in various modes – including voice, text, pictures and video, or any combination of these. | |
| IPWorks | It is a software platform that provides AAA, DNS, DHCP, ENUM, and CLF services. | |
| Load sharing | Distribution of workload across multiple resources such as NE or provisioning systems, to achieve optimal resource use, maximize throughput, minimize response time, and avoid overload. | |
| MultiSC | The term MultiSC reflects the idea of having several services assigned to a Service Consumer. EPS, PS, and CS services are examples of services that can be assigned to a MultiSC. | |
| Network Element | The provisioning system representation of an external network element. A typical example is a specific HLR- or PGM-server. | |
| Network Element Group |
Logically the same thing
as an NE, but with the difference that an NE Group consists of several
NEs together with a load sharing or failover algorithm. The purpose with the NE Group entity is to offer the ability to spread the requests to several NEs to avoid one node to be overloaded (round robin). Another purpose is to be able to handle the case where a specific node is unavailable (failover).
| Network Element Type |
The logical name of a grouping
of one or several NEs (or NE Groups) and a routing algorithm. A typical
example is the NE Type “HLR”, which can have one or several
NEs (HLR1, HLR2...) and a routing algorithm (NumberRangeRouting for
example) grouped together. The purpose with the NE Type entity is to offer the ability to spread requests to different NE:s based on the inbound request data (for example MSISDN).
| Routing | Offers the ability to configure how to spread subscribers among several NEs in the network based on one or several attributes in the inbound request. | |
| Service Aware Policy Controller | It is a high-capacity, telecom-grade policy server that complies with the Policy and Charging Control architecture defined by 3GPP. | |
| Subscriber Data | It refers to the data set defined on per subscriber base for applications. Subscriber data is the primary target that Multi Activation provisions. | |
| User Data Consolidation | It is the Ericsson Subscriber Data Management solution for every service and every access. It provides consolidation of user data for all network functions like user authentication, service authorization, mobility management, policy control, and fraud protection. Ericsson User Data Consolidation implements a Layered Architecture solution supporting all access types like 2G, 3G, LTE, Wi-Fi Mobile IMS, and Fixed IMS. | |
| Upgrade | Replacement of hardware, software, or firmware with a newer or better version. | |
| Virtual Machine | A VM is a software implementation of a machine that executes programs like a physical machine. | |
