CSCF External Network Selection Initial Table Incorrectly Configured
Call Session Control Function

Contents

1   Alarm Description

The CSCF External Network Selection Initial Table Incorrectly Configured alarm is raised when the table referenced by the ExtNetSelectionInitialTableName parameter is empty, or if some other configuration fault is found in the External Network Selection (ENS) tables, within either of the two configuration instances (ExtNetSelection and ExtNetSelection2).

Description

Fault Reason

Fault Location

Impact

CSCF ENS table incorrectly configured

Referenced ENS table (within either of the two configuration instances, ExtNetSelection or ExtNetSelection2) is either empty or contains some unspecified configuration fault.

SIP messages are not properly routed for the routing function or marked as non-transited requests for the transit verification function because of an empty or misconfigured referenced ENS table.

Table referenced by extNetSelectionInitialTableName or extNetSele ctionInitialTransitTableName placed in the Managed Object Class ExtNetSel-Application are empty, or some other configuration fault is found.

If the ENS uses dual configuration mode, the alarm is raised in the passive configuration when synchronizing it, so no traffic is affected.

If the ENS uses single configuration mode, the synchronization of the only active configuration fails. All breakout traffic fails when extNetSelectionDefaultPoolName is not configured and when the Additional Text alarm field indicates an incorrect Configured Initial Transit Table, all transit verifications result in non-transit.

Note:
This alarm can appear as a result of maintenance activity.

2   Procedure

2.1   Handle Alarm CSCF External Network Selection Initial Table Incorrectly Configured

Prerequisites

Steps

  1. Find which ExtNetSel application is causing the alarm to be raised: ExtNetSelection or ExtNetSelection2.

This information is found in the Managed Object Instance alarm attribute.

If the External Network Selection (ENS) is configured to use both configuration instances, the alarm is always raised by the passive configuration. Also see the Additional Text alarm attribute, where the configuration fault is identified.

  2. Correct the identified configuration fault.

    For example:

    • If the Additional Text field states Configured Initial Table <table type>:<table name> is empty, modify the extNetSelectionInitialTableName parameter to identify a populated table, for example, calling:default. The new value must be a different value than the value of extNetSelectionInitialTransitTableName .
    • If the Additional Text field states Configured Transit Table <table type>:<table name> is empty, choose one of the following options:

Remove the value of extNetSelectionInitialTransitTableName to handle the SIP request as a non-transit request.

Modify the extNetSelectionInitialTransitTableName parameter to identify an existing table. The new value of extNetSelectionInitialTransitTableName must be different than the value of extNetSelectionInitialTableName.

  3. In the targeted configuration instance, set the parameter extNetSelectionTablesSynchronization to true.

For more information about the parameter extNetSelectionTablesSynchronization, see Managed Object Model (MOM) and CSCF Configuration Management.

    Result:
The ENS application is notified that a new configuration must be used, and when this is done, the alarm ceases.
  4. Has the alarm ceased?

    Yes: Proceed with Step 6.

No: Continue with the next step.

  5. If the alarm is not ceased, consult the next level of maintenance support.

Further actions are outside the scope of this instruction.

  6. Job is completed.
