Nokia MetroHub and EGPRS transmission planning

Nokia MetroHub provides a unique transmission platform
for various transmission equipment. Nokia MetroHub is a compact, stand-alone
transmission node, which features the cross-connect functionality for traffic
grooming, and integrated transmission units for different media like copper,
fiber and microwave.

MetroHub is compatible with the following transmission
units:

FXC E1, FXC E1/T1

FXC RRI

Grooming

The cross-connection feature of the transmission units
enables traffic grooming. Nokia MetroHub is capable of grooming traffic at
8 kbit/s granularity, which enables a fully optimised and flexible use of
available transmission resources.

Cross-connections

MetroHub and the inbuilt transmission node of the UltraSite
EDGE BTS offer a dynamic 56 x 2 Mbit/s cross-connection field for example
for traffic grooming and protection. The interfacing capacity is even higher:
160 x 2Mbit/s for MetroHub and 128 x 2Mbit/s for UltraSite. The grooming allows
you to save in tranmission costs and protection increases redundancy and quality.
With conventional equipment, this functionality has been costly and difficult
to install. This solution offers cost efficiency and plug-and-play installations.

Cross-connection granularities

There are several types of cross-connections available,
with down to 8 kbit/s granularity. Granularity means the number of bits connected
into a specific direction in a cross-connection. Within the 2 Mb frame, the
available granularities are:

8k (1 bit)

16k (2 bits)

32k (4 bits)

64k (all the 8 bits in a timeslot)

n x 64k

2M (n x 64k, not including timeslot
0)
