<h2>3GPP R99 QoS parameters</h2>

<p>This section introduces QoS parameters delivered in BSS PFC from SGSN
to BSS.</p>

<p>Enhanced quality of service (EQoS) feature enhances the possibilities
in the resource management compared to priority QoS feature in BSS10.5/11.
Priority based QOS is based on R97/98 QOS attributes wherease EQoS solution
is based on 3GPP rel99 QoS attributes Traffic Class, ARP and THP. For streaming
traffic class services it contains also the guaranteed bitrate parameters.</p>

<p>ETSI R97/R98 GPRS specifies the mapping of PDP context QoS-parameters
(R97/R98 Precedence = R99 ARP value) to the LLC-frame priorities in the Gb.
The QoS attributes in R97/R98 specifications and their mapping to R99 QoS
attributes are given in Table <em>R97/98 QoS attributes and their mapping
to R99 attributes</em>. </p>

<p>There are three other R99 QoS attributes that the operator should keep
constant for proper 2G-3G traffic treatment and service continuity:</p>

<ul>
<li><p>Maximum SDU size (1500 octets)</p>
</li>
<li><p>Delivery order: no</p>
</li>
<li><p>Transfer delay: 1000 ms</p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>The rest of the R99 parameters (ARP, Traffic class, THP, Maximum bitrate,
Guaranteed bitrate) define the basis for TRECs as summarized in Table <em>R99
QoS attributes and their relation to TRECs</em>. The operator should not
configure the following attributes differently for different services: Residual
BER, SDU error ratio, Delivery of erroneus SDUs, Maximum SDU size.
As shown in the Table <em>R97/98 QoS attributes and their mapping to R99
attributes</em>, R97/R98 Precedence class value equals R99 ARP. However,
at the same time the R97/R98 standards define the usage of Precedence class
value in the BSS to equal more the functionality of THP in the R99 standards.
As a result, Nokia recommends that the THP should always equal the ARP value
as illustrated in the Table <em>R99 QoS attributes and their relation to
TRECs</em>. </p>
