BTS and BCF Object Amount Increase in BSC

In S11.5, planning and configuration of the radio network
has become more flexible as the maximum number of BTSs and SEGs is increased
to the same amount as there can be TRXs in BSC. The new maximum amounts are
512 for BSC2i and 660 for BSC3i. In BSC3i, also the number of BCFs is increased.
It is possible to use up to 500 BCF Sites with new AS7-C HW in BSC3i. In other
BSC product variants, the BCF count remains unchanged.

The increased amount of objects leads to more flexible cell configurations.
For example, if you have a BTS site of 3 sectors under a BCF where Common
BCCH is in use and the cells are dual band 800/1900 cells, then one cell reserves
2 BTS objects, that is one for each band. And as one BCF eats 3 cells, there
must be exist 6 BTSs per one BCF. With the increased amount of BTSs, the configuration
is usable for the whole TRX count.

Also the amounts of MA and BA lists are changed to equal with the amount
of BTSs. This means that there can be own MA and BA list for each cell, which
makes it possible to use and modify the BA frequency lists cell by cell and
the MA frequency lists BTS by BTS. Also the count of location service elements
(LCSE) has been increased to 1024.

In BSC3i, the count of Location Measurement Unit (LMU) areas is increased
as well to match with the count of BCFs.

In the MML printouts, the BFC ID and BTS ID formats are extended from
three digits to four digits.

BTS and BCF Object Amount Increase in BSC is a standard feature. The
ID range of BTS, BCF and SEG will be set according to the maximum count of
objects in each BSCs variant.

Benefits of the solution

Increasing the amount of BTS objects provides better and more flexible
use of BSC resources and higher efficiency to radio network configurations
when different GSM frequency bands (850/900/1800/1900kHz), TRX types (GSM
or EDGE) and BTS types (TalkFamily, UltraSite, MetroSite) are used in same
logical cell i.e. SEGMENT.
