Large Capacity BSC

BSCE/BSC2 max. capacity can be increased to support up
to 256 TRXs, 248 BTSs, and 200 BCFs, however the sum of Full Rate and Half
Rate TCHs may not exceed 2048. This amount of capacity can be upgraded to
both old, high BSCE’s and BSC2’s just by replacing/adding boards. This capacity
increase step is based on the utilisation of the 486/100MHz CPUs. The following
picture illustrates the changes needed for the old BSC and the new BSC2.

The replacements needed for the old BSC are:

A new group switch GSWB with two SW64B
plug-in units (mandatory from S8 onwards)

486/100MHz CPUs (CP4HX or CP4HL) in
all units (OMU, MCMU, BCSU).

Additional boards needed for the BSCE are:

one new AS7-U per BCSU to handle the
increasing amount of LAPD-links.

The following picture represents the changes needed for
the old BSC.

The changes with BSC2’s are similar with the exception
that new AS7-U’s are not needed. The following picture represents the changes
