                     on the old operating system.
                     USB communication is supported on Windows 2000 SP 2
                     or higher and Window XP (Home and Professional) SP 1
                     or higher only. USB communication is not supported on
                     Windows 98, Windows NT, or Windows ME.

Hardware Requirements:
Processor 400 MHz or higher Pentium grade Processor

                     NOTE: For computers that are not equipped with a
                     serial port, radio communications may be possible
                     with the use of an off-the-shelf USB to RS232

                     Converter Cable.

New Radio Features Supported:
==============================
- 3600-baud (Type II) Trunking Status, Message, and Remote Monitor/Radio Trace
  are now supported.

- APCO Conventional Status, Message, and Remote Monitor/Radio Trace
  are now supported.

- Motorola Data Communications (MDC) Emergency Call and Emergency Alarm
  are now supported.

- Channel Announcement operation is now supported. Requires
  option Q446 - Channel Announcement.

- Advanced Digital Privacy (ADP) operation is now supported. Requires
  option Q667 - Advanced Digital Privacy. Note that ADP operation is only
  supported for APCO Conventional and APCO Trunking channels.

- Integrated Voice and Data operation is now supported. Requires
  option Q947 - APCO Packet Data.

- Trunking Over The Air Re-keying (OTAR) operation is now supported. Requires
  option H868 - OTAR and Multikey, and radio firmware version R04.00.00 or newer.

CPS Enhancements:
==================
- The Customer Programming Software (CPS) now supports Macro Record and
  Playback. This feature can be used to record a series of interactions
  within the CPS and play them back on a different codeplug. Note that erroneous
  behavior can result from recording and playing back a macro on separate
  machines that have significantly different performance specifications.

- The Advanced System Key feature is now supported. This feature can be used to produce
  system keys that have limited functionality and/or have an expiration date.
  The feature also supports obsolescing the older keys if you desire by providing
  an option to only honor the new keys for radio programming. Please refer to
  the help for additional information.

- The Feature Level Security feature is now supported. This feature allows
  an administrator to assign access rights on a page level based on the user
  login accounts. This feature is only supported for Windows 2000 and
  Windows XP. Please refer to the help for additional information. Note that
  use of this feature prohibits access to the alternate table view. This
  incompatibility is being investigated and will be resolved in a future release.

Issues Fixed in this release:
==============================
1) The CPS now allows the 12.5 kHz offset frequencies.
2) The CPS now allows the re-use of deleted Sector ID's within the Fireground
   Accountability feature..
3) The CPS now supports the USB adaptor for the FLASHkeys. This adaptor should
   be used for computers that do not have parallel ports.

Known Issues:
=============
1) Compatibility issues have been seen with Canon Photo software and Acterna
   Software in which only 3 characters can be entered into fields on
   tables. For frequency fields, a workaround for this issue is to enable
   and use the Frequency Picklist feature under the View->Options menu. For
   other fields, the incompatible software must be removed and the CPS
   must be uninstalled and re-installed.
2) Attempting to Read from or Write to a radio with the CPS while the Tuner,
   Data Link Manager, or synchronization software for a PDA is open will cause
   a communication failure.
3) Due to French import laws, the Microsoft encryption support used to
   create archive (.cpg) files with the CPS (Customer Programming Software)
   is not available on the French version of the Windows Operating Systems.
   Therefore, there is no way to save archive files when the CPS is
   installed on the French version of Windows. Until import laws are
   changed such that Microsoft can provide encryption support, this feature
   can not be addressed.
4) Under Tools->FLASHport->Read Radio Configuration, if you attempt to
   close the dialog box by pressing the 'X' in the upper right of the
   dialog while the application is still busy (the cursor is shaped like
   an hourglass), the application may terminate.

Installation:
=============
1) You must uninstall any previous version of the ASTRO 25 Portable CPS
   before installing this new version. Before uninstalling the CPS, disable
   the CPS Password if you have enabled this feature, and close the CPS
   Launcher if it is running in the system tray. Then go to Start ->
   Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, and select to remove
   the CPS. Follow the prompts to completely remove the program, then
   reboot your machine.
2) When you insert the Installation CD into the CD-ROM drive, the
   installation will start automatically if you have auto start enabled for
   your PC. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
3) Windows NT Installation: If the Install does not find the shlwapi.dll in
   *\WINNT\System32 directory, you will need to install Internet
   Explorer 4.1 or above to facilitate the XML installation, which is required
   for the FLASHport feature of the CPS.
4) Please refer to the CPS Programming Installation Guide, which you
   received with this software for more detailed information.
5) If a file installed by the CPS later becomes corrupted, the Repair
   option on the Installation CD may be used to restore it. It is very
   important that the Installation CD for the same version that is
   installed on the computer is used for Repair. Use of a different
   version in an attempt to Repair an installation will result in further
   corruption.

Connecting the PC to the Radio:
===============================
Do not use the Radio Interface Box (RIB), Smart Radio Interface Box (SRIB)
or any of the cables that plug into those boxes. Use only the following
direct PC to radio cables:

   XTS 5000 / XTS 2500 / SSE 5000 / XTS 1500 / MT 1500:

         RS232 cable = RKN4106
         USB cable = RKN4105

When using the USB cable, be sure to always click "Yes" on the Digital
Signature window whenever it is displayed by your operating system. Note
that the USB cable can be used only with Windows XP and Windows 2000
operating systems.

Programming Hints:
==================
1) For Trunking customers, the first time you start the CPS, you should
   go to the User Settings Dialog under the Tools menu and set up the
   directories where you will store your system keys.
2) To retrieve data from XTS 3000 or ASTRO Saber codeplugs, you should read
   the codeplug into the ASTRO Saber / XTS 3000 CPS and use the top node
   drag and drop feature to copy the data into your XTS 5000 or XTS 2500
   codeplug. Drag and drop is a very powerful and time-saving tool, but you
   should always verify the data before writing to a radio. The Drag and
   Drop Report can help with this verification. Please view the Drag and
   Drop Tutorial included in Help for more information.
3) To get help on a field, press F1 while you are on the field, or click on
   the Help button on the tool bar (an Arrow with a question mark) and then
   click on the field for which you want to view help.
4) For more information on the features available in the Windows CPS, we
   suggest you view the audio-visual help tutorials. They can be accessed
   from the CPS menu by selecting Help->CPS Help Topics, and then double-
   clicking on CPS-User...Audio & Video Tutorials, then The Tutorials Menu.
   Then select the tutorial you wish to view.

Differences Between XTS 3000 & ASTRO Saber CPS and ASTRO 25 Portable CPS:
=========================================================================
1) Conventional frequencies are no longer input on the Conventional
   Personality. They are now located on the Zone Channel Assignment table.
   This interface is similar to the trunking interface and it also enables
   the radio to support many more Conventional Channels than Conventional
   Personalities.
2) New cabling is required for the XTS 5000, XTS 2500, SSE 5000, XTS 1500,
   and MT 1500. The new cable does not use a RIB or SRIB. Refer to the
   'Connecting the PC to the Radio' section of this file for the part number.
