Pocket PC Application A03.00.00.02_2003 (ASTRO 25 CPS Tools)

VISTA with Service Pack 1 is now a supported operating system! 
 
 In order for the PDA to synch successfully with CPS on Vista, Windows Mobile Device Center should be used. It can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

System Requirements:
====================
Pocket PC Operating System:    
		     Pocket PC 2003 (not 2003 Second Edition) 
                     Note: USB communication is NOT supported for the Pocket PC Application. 

Pocket PC Hardware Requirements:      
                     This release of the Pocket PC Application supports below PDA models:
		     	HP iPAQ hx2750
		     	HP iPAQ hx2495
		     	HP iPAQ hx2490b
			HP iPAQ hx2000 
                     
                     The support for HP iPAQ H5550 has been discontinued. 

Pocket PC Peripherals:
                    A set of Null Modem and Gender Changer Adapter to connect the Pocket PC 
		    communication cable to the radio RS232 communication cable; or a Serial 
 		    GPS Cable (9 pin male) to connect the Pocket PC to the radio RS232 
		    communication cable (this cable is used to replace the Pocket PC 
		    communication cable, Null Modem and Gender Changer Adapter).

PC Operating Systems:   
                     Window NT 4.0 (SP 6 or higher),
                     Windows 2000 Professional (SP 2 or higher)
                     Windows XP Home Edition (See Note)
                     Windows XP Professional (See Note)
                     Note: XP upgrade OR Vista upgrade from other 				operating systems is not supported if the CPS 					was previously installed on the old operating 					system.
		Windows ME and Windows 98 are not supported.
  	        You may choose to proceed with the installation, but some 
                features might not be functioning properly. Upgrading 		to a supported operating system is highly recommended.
                     USB communication is supported on Windows 2000 SP 2
                     or higher and Window XP (Home and Professional) SP 1
                     or higher only. USB communication is not supported on
                     Windows NT.
                     FLASHport upgrades via USB are supported.
		

Hardware Requirements:

Processor            400 MHz or higher Pentium grade Processor.
			Vista requires 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit 						processor

Memory               512 MB RAM minimum for all supported operating 					systems	except for Vista. Vista minimum 					requirement is 1 GB of System memory
                     
Hard Disk Space      1 Gigabyte Drive with 450 MB minimum free space 				(for a Typical Installation, including Help 					Audio-VisualTutorials) or 60 MB minimum free 					space (for a Compact installation)
		     40 GB hard drive for Vista

Peripherals          Microsoft Windows supported Mouse or Trackball
                     Microsoft Windows supported Serial Port 
                     for radio communication
                     Microsoft Windows supported Printer Port 
                     for report printing
                     CD-ROM for software installation

                     NOTE: For computers that are not equipped with 				a serial port, radio communications may be 					possible with the use of an off-the-shelf 					USB to RS232 converter, such as the IOGEAR USB to 		Serial/PDA Converter Cable.

Pocket PC Application Features Supported:
==============================================================================                   
Read Radio          Pocket PC Application will read the radio, encrypt the data, and save the codeplug content 
                    in an archive. 
Write Radio         Pocket PC Application will decrypt and write an archive to the radio. 
Clone Radio         Pocket PC Application will clone a radio to another. 
Clone Archive       Pocket PC Application will clone an archive to a radio. 

Note:               Pocket PC Application:
                    1. Handles CBI radios
                    2. Handles Password protected radios and archives. 
                    3. Allows updating ASTRO System, ASTRO OTAR, MDC System, Trunking System Individual IDs, and 
                       Radio Alias IDs. Trunking Systems Individual IDs will be updated only if valid Pocket PC 
                       system keys are loaded in the main directory of the Pocket PC named My Pocket PC?(using 
                       Microsoft ActiveSync software that comes along with the Pocket PC).


CPS APPLICATION
Read Archive       The archive saved by the Pocket PC Application which has a .ppc extension can be manually moved to the 
                   PC (using Microsoft ActiveSync), decrypted, and read by CPS. 
Write Archive      CPS will encrypt and save the codeplug in a Pocket PC readable format. The codeplug can then be 
                   manually moved to the PDA (using Microsoft ActiveSync), decrypted, and read by PDA. 	
Note:              1. CPS application handles Pocket PC Application System Key encryption.
                   2. Radio firmware version R04.50.00 or higher is required.

Installation:
=============
Installing the Pocket PC Application:
The Pocket PC Application must be installed on to your Pocket PC. This program is located in the PocketPCApplication?folder on the CPS CD-ROM.
First be sure that Microsoft ActiveSync software is installed on your computer and that your Pocket PC is attached to your computer. Using your Windows Explorer program, browse to the PocketPCApplication?folder. Double click on the Setup.exe?file from the CP CD-ROM and the installation wizard walks you through the install of the program.

Launching the Pocket PC Application:
On your Pocket PC, click the "Start" Menu, then select "Programs" in the drop-down list, then click on the icon named ASTRO25CPSTools?in the "Programs" window. 


Connecting the Pocket PC to the Radio:

Use the Pocket PC communication cable, and the set of Null Modem and Gender Changer Adapter to connect the Pocket PC to the radio RS232 communication cable. Or use a Serial GPS Cable (9 pin male) to connect the Pocket PC to the radio RS232 communication cable.
NOTE: Please make sure that the radio has a valid serial number (Control Board Initialized).

Use the Pocket PC communication cable to connect the Pocket PC to the PC.
